SkyWarn Recognition Day (Dec 5-6th) has been officially CANCELLED for 2025! However the Advisory Board has decided to hold a "modified" SRD this year. We will be at WX4MRX from 9 - 11:30am on Saturday, 12/6. Morristown MRX is down 7 people currently so they do NOT want a lot of people in the main area but we do have use of the conference room.
We will be monitoring your respective districts and will log any calls you would like to make. You can even take calls on your individual nets and let us know how that went; it is entirely up to you. We are hopeful that 2026 everything will be back to normal.
Welcome to District 7 SKYWARN®!
East Tennessee District 7 SKYWARN® consists of trained weather spotters supporting the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Morristown, Tennessee. District 7 includes Carter, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties in northeast Tennessee. If you are interested in becoming a trained weather spotter, look at the "Join Us!" webpage. For more information about the SKYWARN® storm spotter program, please visit the official SKYWARN® website.
We are the local "eyes and ears" for the National Weather Service. Doppler radar is a useful tool but cannot show the weather at ground level. We report our findings to the NWS via amateur radio, the NWS website, or phone. Our training ensures we know the proper reporting criteria for the NWS to ensure they get the information quickly and accurately.
Please note we are weather spotters, not storm chasers. We report weather observations from our current location. SKYWARN® spotters never put themselves in danger to report weather conditions.
District 7 SKYWARN® uses the amateur radio callsign WX4TN when we use amateur radio as an organization. We also use GMRS but use individual callsigns. You do not have to be an amateur radio ("ham") radio operator to join SKYWARN® but it is helpful. Since its founding, SKYWARN® has had a close association with amateur radio.
Find us on the air via GMRS on the Northeast Tennessee Radio Community GMRS repeaters and amateur radio using the Northeast Tennessee Radio Community 146.805 repeater with a negative offset and a PL tone of 203.5.
